Baccarat

Baccarat is a card based betting game that is well over 500 years old. It’s thought to have originated in Italy during the 15th century and it still remains as one of the most popular games today. Many Indian players will know Baccarat because it’s the game James Bond played in Dr No. It’s more than just a game from a movie though. It’s a game that brings in a lot of high class players across the world. Online Baccarat allows players to play at both high and low bet tables. This means that there is more access to lower budget players at an online casino than there would be in a brick and mortar casino.

Game Rules

Baccarat is a relatively simple game. It starts with giving the player a choice. There are three bets that can be made when playing Baccarat. Player, banker or a tie. The player and banker bets both pay out evens. The tie bet usually pays out 8/1, but some online Baccarat games can offer 9/1 for a tie. Although the player and banker both pay out evens, most online Baccarat games charge a 5% commission on banker bets because the banker has an advantage over the player.

Once you have chosen your bet the banker will then play out the game. The banker follows the perfect strategy for both players, so you don’t have any worries in regards to the banker trying to cheat.

The way the game is won is by getting as close as possible to a value of 9. Whoever is closest, wins. As soon as the banker has finished playing the game they will then pay out to any winners. The odds for the banker are actually slightly over 50% in their favour, which is where the 5% commission comes in.

Type of Bets

There are three types of bets in Baccarat. As already mentioned the player and banker bets both pay out even money. However, the commission means that the banker bet has a slight charge attached which makes it pay out slightly less than even money. So, a 100 rupee wager on the player to win would return 200 rupees altogether. This is the return of the 100 rupee stake and then 100 rupees in profit.

The same bet on the banker would return 195 rupees because the 5% commission on winnings would take 5 rupees away from the 100 rupees that were won. As you can see it pays out slightly less than the player wager.

A wager on a tied game would give a return of 900 rupees on a 100 rupee wager. This would be 800 rupees in winnings and the 100 rupees returned.

Strategies

When it comes to strategy when playing Baccarat, there isn’t one in terms of playing the actual game. The banker controls who the game is played, so unlike Blackjack where your own actions can directly influence who will win the game, the only control you have with Baccarat is where you place your bet. So, how do you have a Baccarat strategy?

Put simply, you need to control your bankroll. This is the most vital aspect of a Baccarat strategy. Find a bankroll management strategy that you are most comfortable with and then use this to keep on top of your wagers. You will then know the right time to increase your bets and the right time to decrease them.

It’s also important to stay away from the tie bet. Although this offers much better odds than the other two choices, it also happens far less often. Statistics might say that a tie bet should happen at least once during a long play duration, it’s not uncommon for it not to happen at all. Placing regular wagers on a tied bet is an easy way to lose the majority of your bankroll very quickly.

It’s also a good idea to watch the streaks. While each game has exactly the same odds of going in each direction, sometimes the heavens align and a streak occurs. Don’t be afraid to drop out of the betting if a streak is ruining your strategy. Take a few games off and allow things to calm down, it will give you the chance to get a clear head and place your next wager without it being clouded by the streak.

Different Versions

There are four main versions of Baccarat available to players. The first is the standard online Baccarat variation. Indian players will see this the most often. There is also Mini Baccarat. This is a smaller version of the game, as the name suggests, but the overall rules of the game are the same as the standard version.

There is also Punto Bunco. This is a version of Baccarat that originates in South America. It changes the way that the third card works and accommodates more players than standard Baccarat.
